Marketing Manager

The Marketing Manager is responsible for all marketing programs, including brand positioning and strategic planning, as well as marketing communications and customer and product marketing activities; internal and external documentation; direct management and leadership of marketing staff; and the analysis of market conditions to identify potential growth areas. The incumbent is results-oriented, with the ability to build and manage the marketing function, and to work with company and sales management to consistently achieve or exceed the organization’s growth targets. As a senior member of the management team, the Marketing Manager is a champion of the organization’s overall goals, objectives, and corporate values.

Organization Structure:

There are currently three positions reporting to the Marketing Manager, with the potential of expanding based on business demands:

  • Marketing Specialist
  • Graphic Designer/Webmaster
  • Technical Documentation Specialist

This position may also supervise consultants and external service providers.

Position Responsibilities:

Market Strategy and Positioning:

The following are responsibilities specific to Market Strategy and Positioning:

  • Oversee company marketing strategy in the following areas:
    • brand positioning
    • public relations and social media
    • advertising
    • event management
    • product marketing
    • print and online collateral and promotions
    • direct and inbound marketing campaigns
    • web and mobile marketing, and ecommerce
    • customer communications
  • Develop brand positioning, and communicate with the management team to ensure consistent application of the company brand and messaging across the company.
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate industry and market conditions.
  • Design and develop effective marketing strategies to increase sales volume, customer loyalty, and brand awareness.
  • Oversee lead generation and marketing services to drive the company’s overall growth and revenue objectives.
  • Develop an annual marketing budget, and create and direct the implementation of ongoing strategy and tactical plans.

Marketing Mix and Tactics:

The following are responsibilities specific to the selection and implementation of marketing channels and tactics:

  • Develop and manage internal and external corporate communications activities and systems, and public relations strategy and activities, managing external vendors or consultants as needed.
  • As communications champion for the company, develop systems to ensure that external publications and communications, and internal communications from the Marketing team, are professional, brand-consistent, accurate, and free from error.
  • Develop and manage sales tools, including collateral, video, product benchmarks, and competitive analysis and comparisons.
  • Oversee a database of client and prospect information, and database marketing lists and tools.
  • Develop advertising strategies; oversee the design of advertisements and ad placements.
  • Manage the design, content, and production of marketing collateral and the company Web site, shaping messaging to communicate brand promises, educate customers and prospects, deliver value-added service, and drive sales.
  • Oversee planning and strategy for trade shows and customer conventions; review the results with Sales to establish effectiveness and implement changes or enhancements.
  • Measure and analyze the success and value of marketing campaigns, and refine the marketing strategy, mix, and budget to improve results.
  • In coordination with Customer Service, measure and evaluate customer satisfaction and loyalty, and develop and implement programs to solicit feedback, build community, and help customers derive value from, and recognize the strategic value of, their SpeedLine software.
  • Direct the development and implementation of customer communications and ongoing training tools, including newsletters, social media channels, and dedicated websites.
  • Direct the ongoing development of an online store for after-market sales. Develop strategies to increase after-market sales revenue.
  • Manage the ongoing development of user documentation and online training resources to drive customer loyalty through education.
  • Direct the acquisition and implementation of software and tools for website development, documentation, online help authoring, and ecommerce.
  • Develop and implement cooperative marketing programs.
  • Oversee the development of formal written proposals and presentations in response to requests for proposal from chain prospects.
  • Develop a strategy and oversee processes for developing comprehensive and effective user documentation. Partner with Customer Service to develop webinar and video training content to further customer retention, loyalty, and business development objectives.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge of the position, and participate in job-related training programs or associated personal development initiatives as required.

Leadership & Supervision:

The following are responsibilities specific to leading and supervising departments:

  • Maintain expected product delivery, support, and service standards for the Marketing department.
  • Develop, Implement, maintain, and champion:
    • Strategies
    • Goals, Performance Metrics, Key Success Measures 
    • Operating Procedures and Processes
  • Ensure the department is staffed efficiently and effectively. Recruit all Marketing staff.
  • Assist in the orientation, training, and coaching of new and existing team members.
  • Review, define scope, and distribute projects to staff as necessary to balance workloads and workflow.
  • Accept, research, track, and resolve escalations and issues not able to be resolved by other employees, minimizing the amount that gets escalated further.
  • Manage schedules, attendance, time banks, and payroll for direct reports.
  • Foster relationship building with all staff.
  • Present staffing recommendations to the Managing Director.
  • Work with all other management staff to define best practices for SpeedLine standards.
  • Assist and, at times, train staff in regards to processes and options. 
  • Provide leadership and coaching to staff, including evaluating performance.
  • Prepare and deliver performance reviews for direct reports.
  • Identify, prepare and provide support for professional and performance objectives for direct reports.
  • Lead regular individual and team meetings with all direct reports.

Company Responsibilities:

The following are responsibilities to the Company, beyond marketing management:

  • Serve as a member of the SpeedLine management team.
  • Partner with the management team in:
    • Effective resource management to accomplish the organization's goals and objectives.
    • Employee engagement strategies and company processes to support the strategic direction and to support staff efficiently and effectively.
    • Operating as a unified team.
  • Partner with the Managing Director in designing, establishing, and maintaining a department structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives; employ, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Advocate for staff with management.

General:

  • Review and stay current with information provided to staff from the company and other departments each week.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years business to business marketing experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in management.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in the technology industry.
  • A high degree of creativity and latitude of experience.
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or MBA in marketing or a related subject.
  • Results oriented, with a proven ability to exceed company objectives.
  • Ability to research and analyze potential markets and develop effective marketing strategies.
  • Solid leadership skills with a focus on team building, and the ability to identify, develop and deliver training and coaching as required.
  • Solid understanding of marketing performance metrics and projections, the ability to analyze results and initiate changes as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a variety of individuals at all levels.
  • Knowledge of design, communications, content management, email and mobile marketing, media relations, social media, user documentation, and online help authoring. Ability to develop or oversee the development of professional marketing collateral and editorial content.
  • Highly organized and proficient in balancing operational requirements with employee needs.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.
  • Have and maintain a valid BC driver’s license.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel to the United States.
